JAMES, David:
At home in Napier on Thursday, 11th January 2018, following a prolonged period of ill health, Master Mariner (Retired) David James slipped his moorings and set sail on his last voyage. Cherished husband and long lost love of Franki; former husband of Rita (deceased) and proud father of Alun and Megan; treasured father-in law of Paul and Katherine and beloved "Poppa Dave" to his five grandchildren - Liam, Sam, Caleb, Luke and Evie. A celebration of Dave's life will be held in the Napier Sailing Club, 63 West Quay, Ahuriri, on Friday, 19th January at 11.00am, followed by private cremation. More than grateful thanks are due to: Ben Corney next door; all the team at the Tamatea Medical Centre; the St John Ambulance crews; all staff at Hastings District Hospital, including the District Nursing Service; all staff and volunteers at Cranford Hospice, including the wonderful Community Care Nurses; the helpful staff at Andrew Spence Pharmacy in Onekawa and fellow members of the Lions Club of Napier Host, as well as the lovely ladies at Miranda Smith Homecare – Anna, Barbara, Bridget, Di, Lyn, Natasha and Steph - who, together with family and friends (especially Di Crowley), helped to care for Dave during his last few weeks.
