Missing you uncle. When my phone rings I want to hear your voice say, "Les, what's the news from the north?"
But your not here my wonderful uncle. And I won't be hearing your voice thru my phone no more.
Thank you uncle for nurturing, teaching, mentoring and loving myself and my many cousins.
You will be in our hearts forever.
To my Aunty Brenda thank you for loving our uncle so dearly.
Without you he would not have been the man that he was.
We will love and cherish you for always.
We have many memories of Christmas gatherings, family occassions and a few catch up cuppa coffee memories..
You now rest with papa and nana, Wharemate and Meere Joyce and siblings Tom, Kahu, Piripi, Tommy, Tauaria, Harold, Kiri, Harriet, Stan and Solomon so you all will be having a beer or two up in heaven..
Will be sadly missed.
'Rest in love' my beautiful uncle Ap

Aporo was a legend in the Creek. He helped me in so many ways first introducing me to the community and then being so supportive getting the He Huarahi Tamariki School started. After he retired he would go off to the Hokianga for months and I would save up all my questions and put them in a jar for his return. David and I send our condolences to Brenda and the whanau. Rest in Peace dear Ap..We will miss you. Susan Baragwanath

Ap had the most amazing way of relating to everybody no matter your age or your background. I remember when my 5yr old went walkabout with one of his school mates one day from our place in Leicester St. I was frantic but Ap knew it wouldn't be hard to find him and knew exactly how to handle things when we did. He gave him a talking to, reminded me he'd just had a growling so I didn't need to go over the top with the punishment, and sent us on our way. Magic. An amazing person, authority figure, and kaumatua to ngati pakeha and whanau alike.
