Anne and Bruce were a delightful couple now both gone. Anne was a warm host and a strong lady in her prime - Barbara and I looked forward to our Eastbourne visits . There was always good conversation and if our discussions mellowed somewhat over time -there was always the memories of our turbulent student days. Anne's passing is a sad loss.

To Grant,
I was sad to see that your Mother had died.
She and I went back a long way together in the choir and she certainly loved singing as I do.
She was also very useful planting all the trees she did too.
I'm sure you're going to miss her.
So sorry for your loss

Dear Gabriel'e and Vaughan,
Eleanor has sent me an email, saying Anne has passed away. I have rung Lois and told her that I do not think I will be coming to her funeral as I do not think my driving is safe enough. If someone else is coming my way-I may be able to get a ride. I will not close the possibility!
I have always liked Anne and I know that you both took great care of her, which is so lovely.
May you both be blessed yourselves in your old age.
You will miss her so much - even thou an invalid in her later years, a Mother is someone(Vaughan) you have known all your life and it will be strange.
It always leaves a gap when someone we love dearly, has gone.
You will be comforted by knowing you cared for her so long and so well.
With Love,
Celia Carman

Dear Grant, Jason and Vaughan,
I was sorry to read of Anne's passing.
We shared many experiences when we met at Teacher's College in the early 70's.
Finding we were neighbors in more recent times, was a remarkable coincidence.
A lovely welcome to the area was the dinner at your home-a lovely meal.
How well your Mum had trained you all to do your bit-and no doubt at many a meal!
May happy memories of your great Mother comfort and sustain you.
With Sympathy and Warm Regards,
Jocelyn Holmes

I had the privilege of being Anne's godson.
As such I understand she was responsible for my spiritual well being and development.
I've got to accept the obvious failures in that area as my own.

Anne and my mother (Anne) were close friends for 65 years.
Mum wanted to be here but unfortunately is in and out of hospital with her own health issues.
However, she has been able to write a few words about their friendship.

"I can vividly recall meeting Anne for the first time - we had just arrived in a hostel for trainee school dental nurses (now known as therapists) and had been put in adjoining cubicles in a dormitory with a group of complete strangers.

So started a lifelong friendship. Along with Valerie my cubicle mate the three of us met up during holidays and hitchhiked successfully far and wide.

That friendship endured in spite of us being scattered around the country. It was helped by The Letter. Anne wrote to me, I then wrote to Valerie including Anne's letter then Valerie wrote to Anne including my letter and so on for many years encompassing shifts around the country, boyfriends, engagements, marriages, births of babies until now sadly funerals.
Valerie having gone first.

We managed several family holidays between Wellington and Hawera but also owing to Anne's generosity Opera weekends. Anne was always very fond of music and miraculously often happened to have a spare ticket that I was the only one who could possibly use.!!

I always admired Anne's determination. Later on as the family grew and she decided she wanted to teach she needed University Entrance to be accepted for Teachers Training College so she set to and did the necessary courses and passed the necessary exams and achieved her ambition.

Miss you Anne x

Thank you Gabriel'e for letting us know of Anne's passing. We have been thinking of her and heartened by your last photo of Vaughan with her.
It is quite merciful that she does not have to suffer any longer even though you and Vaughan have given her the best possible care.
We know you will have the fondest of happy memories to treasure of the time you have known her. It was truly a miracle that she has soldiered on for so long. That was Anne.
Kind regards.

Dear Gabriel'e and Vaughan

I am so sorry to hear this but glad that Anne had a long and productive
life.
I shall always remember the times we had dinner with Bruce and Anne in
Eastbourne and the happy gatherings of the old timers in the garden.

Sad to hear that Anne is no longer with us. She was such a fighter. My thoughts are with you both. It was your loving care and attention that helped her through the last of life in comfort that many in the same situation would envy. You added so much light and strength and care to walk beside them as she and your uncle Stan took their last journey. You both are shining examples of how to give back the love and care to people who have given their all . Hugs and wishes to you both.

Hi Gabriel'e thank you for the offer, as I am working through the next few days I find it will be difficult to compose... however if you will let everyone know we all have very fond memories of Anne and are saddened by the loss. Sophie, my daughter was lucky enough to spend time with her when she came to NZ with Ron in 2005. She reports "So sad to hear this. Anne was very sweet to me when I visited. Hugs to the family." Corrine, my other daughter and Darren, her fiancée, send condolences from Ireland. Jeffrey sends his best wishes and remembers Anne well from our childhood visits as do I. My girls father, Andrew, reports that he remembers Anne from a trip that she and Bruce made to the states years ago. And of course Ron has many many great memories of times he, my mother, Josephine, and later both families spent together with all the activities and get togethers. Anne touched all our lives with joy and love. We send all our love and peace to you all. Please give my cousins our condolences on the loss of their beautiful mother and also to the rest of the family. Thank you and Vaughan for all the wonderful care you gave her and making sure her last years were full of love. She was a wonderful example to us all. Sending hugs to you all. ❤
